When the actress Alma Joncas dies in the middle of having an orgasm and after a brilliant comeback on stage, the doctor Alexandre Maras is left with only one desire : spread, in accordance with her last wishes, the ashes of his beloved wife throughout the place where she was the most happy. But the accomplishment of his quest will put his convictions to the test, the image of perfect happiness, consolation of the old days, sways under the perfidious and invasive words of the others, family and friends, fed with insinuations, manipulations and selfish motivations, causes in the end the disaffection of Mélissa, Alexandre Maras’s darling daughter. And if the « good father » saved the « good husband » ?
In 120 pages, Pan Bouyoucas leads a highly theatrical tale without embrassing himself of any ceremonial : the story is on the road to its own ruin, without the least detour, taking out from Montreal to Léros, through Paris and La Malbaie, a man who had never left until then the bond which consituted his love for his wife – magnificent garden that fate, as a bad gardener, would want to destroy.
AUTHOR : Pan Bouyoucas
COUNTRY : Canada (Quebec)
Of Greek descent, Pan Bouyoucas was born in Lebanon in 1946 and emigrated in Canada at the age of sixteen. He becomes translator, playwright and film critic. His various activities led him to write texts for Radio-Canada and to contribute as a film critic to several Quebec and foreign magazines.
With a wild verve, Pan Bouyoucas orchestrates oneiric pursuits teeming with the allegories of culpability. This novel is also the metaphor of an introspection in which the seasoned man is tormented by « those memories whose deaths shoot the living with strength ».
